Biography
The story so far has been action-packed and full of surprises.
Even before she was moulding her own material, Catherine was playing piano, the instrument that remains the main accompaniment to her songs. She started practising at the age of 4, and picked up the flute at 8. Singing and saxophone soon followed. During the college years Catherine played in live bands across the UK and toured Germany and Israel. After graduating from Leeds College Of Music with a degree in jazz, she landed a couple of local residencies resulting in her playing 7 nights a week. Since then gigs have progressed to more vocal work and setting up a small trio where she sings and plays flute and saxophone. Now with 12 years of live experience, Catherine has bookings for weddings as far as 3 years in advance. With the unique opportunity to tailor songs to the couple's needs, it's a really special touch to the day. She has been commissioned to write or co-write songs for weddings which add a personal feel to the ceremony and are a nice alternative to having a reading. Even just changing some of the lyrics in a song can make the meaning so much more profound. Catherine is also a session musician. Her main contract is for a mobile recording studio called "Mainstream". She has secured the contract to record all their piano backing tracks for singers to use in their sessions. But it's the singing and performing her own songs that is now the priority for Catherine. The stockpile of melodically rich, jazz and soul-influenced songs, to which her clear voice adds a hint of country lilt, keeps on growing. The songs are constantly being re-arranged and re-recorded and with the input of the other band members, they are really starting to take shape. |
